Chitung Liu joined UMC in 2001 and is the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. In addition, Mr. Liu is also the Company Spokesperson and Head of Corporate Development. UMC is one of the world’s largest semiconductor foundries and a leader in semiconductor manufacturing process technologies.
Prior to joining UMC, Mr. Liu worked at UBS as Managing Director and Head of Asian Technology Research. Mr. Liu was ranked No.1 analyst numerously in all major polls including Institutional Investors and Asia Money as the best country analyst as well as the best technology analyst in his 10-year analyst career.
Mr. Liu received Best IR Professional Award by Institutional Investors in 2005 and Best Corporate Executive of the Year in Taiwan by Asia Money in 2006.
Mr. Liu graduated from National Taiwan University, holds a MBA, and an EMBA degree. He is currently the board member of Novatek and Unimicron Technology.
Steve brings twenty-five years of sell side equity research experience following the technology supply chain to his clients, including a deep “on the ground” understanding from years of consistently meeting with senior managers, attending trade shows and visiting operating facilities across North America, Europe and Asia. Steve has a long history of following a range of critical industries to the supply chain, including connectors, sensors, printed circuit boards and other passive components as well as electronics manufacturing services and distribution. Over the past several years, Steve expanded his research practices focused on the storage industry, to move beyond HDDs, to cover NAND, DRAM and full array systems. Steve also expanded coverage of auto technologies to include complex roadmaps tied to active safety (e.g. radar, compute modules, associated software), transportation-as-a-service (TaaS) plus automated mobility on demand (AMoD).
Most recently, Steve was Managing Director at Cross Research, a well-known independent provider amongst institutional investors of technology equity research, from 2011 until 2020. Prior experience includes as a Managing Director at CLSA (Credit Agricole Securities USA) from 2009 until 2011 where he coordinated research efforts with analysts in Asia as well as the U.S. from his coverage of the supply chain and certain technology OEMs. In addition, Steve covered the supply chain while at Merrill Lynch from 1995 until early-2009 where he was recognized on Institutional Investor’s All-American Research Team in all five years that he was eligible, including a second team ranking in 2007 and 2008. Steve graduated from Penn State University with a Bachelors of Science in Economics and is also a Chartered Financial Analyst.

From February 2002 until January 2006 he was a Telecom & Media Portfolio Manager at Sigma Capital, a subsidiary of SAC Capital. Mr. Harrington graduated from Columbia College in 1998. He was a member of the Columbia University Judiciary Board as well as a member of the varsity crew team.
