James leads Environmental Research and ESG Modeling at S&P Global. S&P Global’s ESG solutions offer financially relevant analytics and timely data to assess risk, uncover opportunities and inform long term sustainable growth. Previously James served as part of Trucost’s senior management team as the Head of Data Strategy and Operations, and also served as Trucost’s Head of North American Research.

Prior to joining Trucost, James worked as a consultant at Ceres (the Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies). James holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Oxford University’s Centre of the Environment, where his work focused on the measurement of corporate environmental performance and how these data are used within financial markets. He also holds a BA and an MA in Environmental Science and Policy from Clark University

Hewson Baltzell

Planning Team Member at OS Climate and President of Helios Exchange

Hewson Baltzell is President, COO and initial investor in Helios Exchange, a SaaS business focused on energy efficiency in commercial buildings that has significant potential for reducing carbon emissions. He is also Head of Product at OS-Climate, an initiative under the Linux Foundation to create an open-source data and application development community to bring more and better climate data and analytics to institutional investors, regulators, and the public at large.

Previously, as co-founder what is now MSCI ESG Research, Hewson spent 17 years building the dominant firm in the environmental, social and governance research field, from a 2-person start-up in 1998. Hewson was on the Board and Audit Committee of the Global Impact Investing Network for 7 years, on the Standards Advisory Council (the rating committee) of B-Lab for 10 years, and was the CEO of the Sorenson Impact Center at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business. Studied Political Science at the University of British Columbia in Canada, and Sustainable Resource Management at Technical University Munich in Germany. Since 2018 joined the ESG Team at Allianz Investment Management (AIM), monitoring the ESG Integration processes and reporting for the global proprietary portfolio of Allianz. Co-Lead for internal Climate Data Solutions at AIM with focus on carbon accounting, temperature modelling and regulatory ESG reporting.
